Management of wound biofilm Made Easy

1 May 2017

Biofilm research continues to grow and evolve at a rapid pace. It is clear that researchers are still trying to understand the impact of these tolerant microbial phenotypes on wounds. More data are required particularly in the testing of both old and new agents to understand the most effective treatments. When faced with a paucity of conflicting information on biofilm, clinicians should revert to some basic principles. This Made Easy looks at the prevalence and detection of biofilm, the need for an aggressive approach to treatment and use of antimicrobials and ‘anti-biofilm’ agents in a multi-pronged approach to care.
